Embracing Negative Emotions

There are days I feel annoyed or sad for absolutely no reason. But then there are days that I feel nothing. And that's the most annoying of all!

I used to worry when these unexpected and unknown emotions hit me. In a matter of seconds, I would label them and label myself as well. DO NOT DO THAT!

Emotions are emotions. Just like we have different types of weather. Recognizing and accepting our feelings, no matter how uncomfortable, gives us the opportunity to observe them, understand their source and then find ways to manage them effectively. This will allow us to become more aware of our emotions and gain more control over our reactions.

By embracing negative emotions, one can learn to process and manage them in a healthy way. This can involve practicing self-awareness and mindfulness, acknowledging the emotions without judgment or self-criticism, and exploring the underlying causes of the emotions. It's important to remember that emotions are a normal and natural part of the human experience. Even negative emotions can provide valuable information and insights into our inner lives.

That being said, it's also important to note that embracing negative emotions doesn't mean dwelling on them excessively or letting them control our actions. We just need to give them a hug every once in a while and say, "Hey, I feel you and I acknowledge you. But I'm not gonna let you drive the bus."

Sadness can help us process loss and change, anger can motivate us to stand up for ourselves and make changes, fear can help us avoid danger and take precautions, and frustration can drive us to persist and problem-solve.

It's important to recognize that negative emotions are not "bad" or "wrong" by themselves. They are simply signals from our minds and bodies that something is not right. We may need to address a problem or make a change. So basically, it's okay to be mad, as long as you do something about it - just don't be mad and do nothing!

Suppressing or denying negative emotions can actually be harmful, as it can lead to heightened emotional distress and even physical health problems. Instead, it's crucial to allow ourselves to feel and express our emotions in a healthy and constructive way. This means talking to a trusted friend or therapist, engaging in self-care activities, or taking steps to address the underlying cause of negative emotions.

One way for me to tame these negative emotions is through fragrance smell - perfume spray, essential oil diffuser, or scented candles. This way, I can create a peaceful, calming environment that allows me to be more in control of my emotions, rather than having my emotions control me.
